play it loud & play it often: Pretty Lights’ new EP

Vacay Wave just put up a post on Pretty Lights‘ new EP Spilling Over Every Side. Here’s my favorite track, “Look Both Ways,” as a Youtube post for you to listen to while you read the rest of this post. It’s playful, summery, and rhythmic:

I haven’t heard much of Pretty Lights’ other stuff, but now I’m a huge fan. It’s light enough to listen to while doing something like reading, studying, or blogging but also complex enough to enjoy on its own. Great beats, just enough synth, a great variety of sounds, and early 20th-century big-band influences make for a rich listening experience. I’m of the opinion that good music should be played loud and often, and this EP is no exception.

I am going to the Electric Zoo music festival on Randall’s Island, NYC on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend and I’m sure that Pretty Lights headlining the “Red Bull Music Academy Riverside Stage” will contribute to what promises to be an amazing experience. There are a lot of great acts playing at Electric Zoo like The Chemical Brothers, Benny Benassi, Major Lazer, Kaskade, Joachim Garraud, Flying Lotus, and Rusko, but more on them in future posts.

Here is my second favorite off Spilling Over Every Side, “A Million Tomorrows”:

All six tracks off Pretty Lights’ new EP are great, so be sure to check them out on Vacay Wave’s post here.
